RACE CAMP

Speed Quest Race Camp is a five-day program that aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to kart racing. Participants will learn about safety rules, driving techniques, race strategy, and track design. Each day consists of in-kart sessions, classroom sessions, STEM activities and design tasks that build on the skills and knowledge gained from previous days.

On the final day, participants will present their complete racing team and track design. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, practical application, and continuous evaluation to help participants improve their driving skills and understand the various aspects of kart racing. Activities

DAY 1 (9 a.m - 4p.m)
  • Introduction to kart racing & safety rules

  • In-kart familiarization & practice.

  • Racing techniques: Start, throttle control and braking.

  • Classroom: Kart dynamics, tire pressure.

  • STEM activity: Balloon-powered car racing.

  • Design task: Racing team logo and kart livery design.

DAY 2 (9 a.m - 4p.m)
  • Kart handling and driving techniques.

  • Racing techniques: Steering, weight transfer, and cornering.

  • In-kart time trials, feedback session.

  • Classroom: Race strategy, communication, teamwork.

  • STEM activity: Designing and racing gravity-powered racers.

  • Design task: Refining racing team logo and kart livery.

DAY 3 (9 a.m - 4p.m)
  • Kart maintenance, troubleshooting.

  • Racing techniques: Drafting, slipstreaming, overtaking.

  • In-kart relay races, strategy analysis.

  • Classroom: Race rules, flags, penalties.

  • STEM activity: Building and racing straw rockets.

  • Design task: Track layout design, considering straightaways and corners.

DAY 4 (9 a.m - 4p.m)
  • Advanced driving skills and tactics.

  • Racing techniques: Late braking, trail braking, power sliding.

  • In-kart Grand Prix races, performance evaluation.

  • Classroom: Race preparation, setup, tire pressure, chassis adjustments.

  • STEM activity: Building and racing rubber band powered vehicles.

  • Design task: Adding features to track layout.

DAY 5 (9 a.m - 4p.m)
  • Graduation ceremony and awards.

  • Final in-kart races, track walk, setup discussions.

  • Reflection on skills learned, experiences gained.

  • Farewell, next steps for participants.

  • Design presentation: Racing team and track design presentation.
